Love Bird Cards

These two cards were made using my Gelli Plate and the "Love Bird" stencil from iStencils.  I first laid down metallic acrylic and regular acrylic paint on the Gelli Plate. Next, I laid the stencil over the stencil, rubbed, and then lifted the paper (2nd card). Then I removed the stencil and laid another piece of paper over what was left on the plate to get what is called a "ghost" print (1st card).

Turtle, Birds, & a Gecko

I'm not sure what got into me tonight, but I had this uncontrollable urge to draw something Native American.  So, I whipped out the watercolor pencils and made four backgrounds.  Let me explain something that I like about watercolor pencils; they, in my honest opinion, have the most brilliant colors.

I did the Gecko card with my watercolor blocks and the rest I did with my watercolor pencils.  See how bright they turned out.

Next, I drew each Native American symbol and then colored them in with permanent marker, which works really well for drawing over watercolor.

Our Fine Feathered Friends Swap

I was invited to join another art doll swap.  I was really excited to find out that it was about birds!  I made four bird dolls and they all turned out very colorful and pretty.  I drew each bird and then used watercoloring for coloring the birds.  I then used my permanent markers and outlined and added the details.

I haven't even begun to pretend to know how to watercolor, but I sure do like the effect.  I tried some different techniques like using a watercolor pencil to "draw" in the wet watercolor.  This can be seen on the parrot.

I really enjoyed making these birds and just wish I knew the name of the bird that hangs upside down.

Birdie Birdie Couplets

One night my husband says, out of the blue, "Birdie Birdie in the sky; why'd you do that in my eye?".  I can't remember the reason for him saying that and knowing him there really wasn't one.  So, then I say "Birdie Birdie on the pole; about to put you in a hole" and we were off and running for like three nights coming up with what I later found out were called "couplets".

So, I posted a game on FaceBook asking others to post some of their own.  Not a whole lot of luck with this, so I decided to host an ATC Swap over at ATCs For All! (AFA).  My swap is called "Birdie Birdie Couplet Swap".  So far I have four players and am very impressed that one player came up with 16 of these couplets in like five minutes.

I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with.  I am hoping that once the holidays are over the number of participants in the swap will pick up.  Actually, I'm sure it will, because I private messaged over 50 people on AFA asking if they'd like to join my swap!

Day 95 - Peacock

I am an avid bird watcher and love birds.  There are ugly birds, pretty birds, small birds, and large birds.  I sat on my front porch and watched a Red Robin trying to get the seeds on a bird feeder I put up this year that doesn't really have anything for the birds to perch on.

Last year my mom bought me the bird feeder for my birthday, but I didn't even think about it having something for the birds to perch on.  The Red Robin finally figured out how to sit on it to get a few seeds and then took it back to its partner that was sitting on a nearby tree stump.

I thought to myself, "where there is a will, there is a way"!

Unidentified Footprints in the Snow!

So, I stepped out on my front porch this morning and there were two sets of footprints.  The first set was recognizable as bird prints, however, the second set I couldn't quite identify.  They were bigger than a cat, but smaller than a dog.  Hmmm!  On the right side of the porch, looking at the street, they were intermingled like something had chased the bird.  On the left side of the porch, again looking at the street, there were just the bird prints.

I saw this as a photo opportunity and went into the house and got my camera.  Here are pictures of the two sides of the house.  Anyone care to venture as to what the second set of prints is?

Day 22 - Folk Art Bird ATC

I love all things vintage, folk art, Native American, etc. This card is part of a set of 2 cards both having folk art birds. The colors are somewhat earth tone, which happens to be another one of my favorites. I used a gold metallic marker to add some pizazz and I am really happy with how they turned out.

Day 21 - Tweet Birdy ATC

I have gone crazy with the acrylic spray bottle technique and here is another card to prove it! I spray acrylic paint over lace and it makes the coolest designs to work with. I bought some lace curtains at the thrift store so I didn't have to worry about cost!
